On Friday July 7th, we will be hosting our first live band event at Patagonia Old Town. Please join us for the "Age of Anxiety Campus Tour" experience: a cutting-edge interactive music/literary performance, featuring the indie-rock bank Social Void (@socialvoid) from Charleston S.C.
D.C. based author Warren Getler (PANIC, a novel, panicstory.com) and Chip Cooley from Social Void will be emceeing this event. Joining Chip and Warren on stage for the event is local filmmaker, Trish Glowacki, Founder and Exec. Dir. of the glowmedia project. Trish will present trailers from her adolescent mental health film series and join Warren and Chip in discussion about the youth mental health crisis. This will be the official re-launch of the tour, focused on engaging America's youth on high school and college campuses on the ever-growing issue of anxiety and depression, following the AoA tour's interruption by Covid back in early 2020. Co-sponsoring the event, with the theme of healthy outdoor engagement, is the Rock Creek Conservancy.
This is a ticketed event and there is limited seating available. Please click on the link above to purchase tickets for $10. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to our nonprofit organization partner, Rock Creek Conservancy.
Rock Creek Conservancy is a watershed organization protecting Rock Creek and the philanthropic and stewardship partner to the entirety of Rock Creek National Park. The Conservancy’s mission is to restore Rock Creek and its parklands as a natural oasis for all people to appreciate and protect.
Rock Creek Conservancy is the only organization dedicated solely to Rock Creek and its parks. The creek meanders 33 miles through Montgomery County and Washington, DC, crossing federal lands as well as District, city, county, and state boundaries.
Social Void is a pensive, rock band from Charleston, SC, with a focus on thought-provoking lyrics and atmospheric musical textures. Consisting of brothers Chip and Brent Cooley, Quell Graham, Jesse Tortorella, and Evan Lampkin, the group pulls from a variety of influences to convey complex emotions and address challenging topics, inspired heavily by lead singer Chip Cooley's experiences with mental illness, most notably depression and general anxiety disorder. Underpinning each song and performance is a genuine interest in connecting with others who relate to these topics with an attempt at infusing hope in some of the darker parts of the human experience. They're currently working on the follow-up to their last album, Resurrection Choir, released in 2020.
Former journalist with the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News, International Herald Tribune and Discovery Channel
Warren Getler is an author based in Washington, D.C. A former journalist with The Wall Street Journal, The International Herald Tribune, Bloomberg News and The Discovery Channel, he co-wrote the non-fiction Rebel Gold, One Man’s Quest to Crack the Code Behind the Hidden Treasure of the Confederacy (2004, Simon & Schuster,) which served as the backdrop to Disney’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets.
He wrote an e-novel, entitled, PANIC. It is an uplifting tale of a young man navigating the emotional peaks and valleys of panic disorder. And according to Warren, PANIC is as much a story about this era – what he calls “the Age of Anxiety” – as it is about one teen’s battle to overcome debilitating mental health challenges. Panic and anxiety disorders afflict millions – young and old – around the world, leading Getler and partner band Social Void to launch the “Age of Anxiety Campus Tour.”
